Selling the family business - Conway Center for Family Business

Selling the family business

Succession planning is a complex process. It is not always easy and sometimes the plan involves key non-family members. As you will read below, it also can include selling the family business when there is no family willing or able to take the lead.

Reflections and New Horizons
by Conway Center member Ellen Grinsfelder of the Inn & Spa at Cedar Falls

As Terry and I reflect on 2015 and prepare for 2016, we are taking the time to reach out to all of our extraordinary guests who have held a special place in our hearts since 1987.

Terry and I are beginning to transition to a new phase in our lives. Not retirement mind you, but semi-retirement! As many of you know, we moved to Buckeye Lake, outside of Columbus, a couple of years ago. We continue to be fully involved with the Inn, but with a more flexible schedule. Doing so has enabled us to travel more, visit other inns, go to the beach with our family and tour parts of the U.S. we haven’t seen.

We’ve been able to take advantage of traveling opportunities only because we have a terrific management team and dedicated staff. We know that they hold our strong values in providing exceptional care of our guests and business – even when we aren’t on the property. As we transition, our dedicated leaders of Nicole McCabe, Assistant Innkeeper, and Anthony Schulz, Executive Chef, will continue to uphold our mission of EXCELLENCE in all that we do.

While it is a bittersweet decision and a lengthy process, Terry and I have listed the Inn for sale. In doing so, we are committed to finding a buyer who will be as passionate and caring to our values of hospitality as we are. If you know of anyone who might be interested, please have them email me at ellen@innatcedarfalls.com. In the meantime, we will continue to be fully engaged in operations and steering our dedicated and wonderful management team.

Until we turn over the reins, please know that Terry, Nicole, Anthony and myself are as committed as ever to make your stay a most memorable and joyous experience. Thank you for your loyalty to the inn. We look forward to seeing you on your next visit. The four of us wish you and your families a happy and safe holiday season.
